Introduction to By-Name Data

By-Name Data (BND) is real-time information about all known people experiencing homelessness in a community necessary to connect them to appropriate housing resources. This course provides a high-level overview of BND, what it is, and why it’s important to have. You’ll learn how BND supports both coordinated access and prioritization at the person-level, and an understanding of homeless inflow and outflow at a system level. You’ll discover how this actionable data supports triage to services, system performance evaluation, and advocacy for the policies and actions necessary to end homelessness. This course is intended for anyone working in the homelessness response system.
